Meinerzhagen, 20/11/2023

The time has arrived this year: Fernholz, one of the leading manufacturers of plastic packaging for the food and dairy industries, can look back on a proud 60 years of company history. Established 1963 by the brothers Werner and Helmut Fernholz, the company has since evolved into an innovative and successful player in the industry. The first production hall was inaugurated 1972 at the current location on the Ihne industrial estate in Meinerzhagen. The company expanded its production and storage facilities, and Frank and Uwe Fernholz, the two sons of the founders, took the reins at the company in 2002.

Uwe Fernholz, one of the founder’s sons, took charge in 2016, becoming sole managing director the same year. He has been assisted by Michael Roth as the second managing director since 2022. The establishment of a second production site in Schkopau, eastern Germany, in 2009 was a milestone in the history of Fernholz. It was equipped with state-of-the-art extrusion systems for PS, PP and multilayer sheets. An extension to the hall in Schkopau was constructed in 2023 to satisfy the high demand and full order books. Fernholz has built a reputation not only as an innovator in the packaging industry, but also as a popular employer that remains true to the family values of a medium-sized company. Employees benefit from attractive wages and a secure income, making Fernholz a stable environment for professional and personal development. Today, Fernholz employs around 200 dedicated employees and processes 2,000 tons of plastic granulate each month. This quantity is equivalent to approximately 2.5 billion packaging units per year. What is more, the ‘Fernholz goes green’ initiative is committed to modern, sustainable manufacturing and products with recyclability of up to 98 percent. Fernholz looks back on the past 60 years with pride and joy, while remaining rightly confident about its future development. ‘Our story is an impressive testimony to how a small company can evolve into a successful and innovative medium-sized enterprise in a competitive market’, explains Uwe Fernholz, Managing Director of W. u. H. Fernholz GmbH & Co. KG. ‘And with Til Fernholz, we now have the family’s third generation taking a leading role at the company.’
Based in Meinerzhagen and Schkopau, W. u. H. Fernholz GmbH & Co. KG is a manufacturer of films and plastic packaging. It holds numerous certificates that bear witness to its sustainable and innovative products.
