Investments in Schkopau: The successful sheet segment will soon have more space to grow. Here at Fernholz, we have been extruding PS, PP, PET and multilayer sheets as well as decorated or printed PS sheets at our sites in Meinerzhagen and Schkopau for many years. We started expanding our Schkopau site in March 2022. Over 2,250 m2 of additional space will be available there for production and storage once the work is complete. Besides that, approx. 250 m2 have been earmarked for outdoor facilities to house the cooling system, power supply and silos.

But these investments are prompted by more than the necessity to expand our space and capacities. “We want to push boundaries and raise the bar wherever it’s necessary and possible”, said Fernholz Managing Director Michael Roth when the project was initiated. This includes setting new standards for the carbon footprint in production. In doing so, Fernholz draws on the latest developments in energy technology. The waste heat from the cooling system is used, for instance, to heat the entire building complex. Photovoltaic cells will deliver some of the energy in the final stage of the development. The façade is also designed according to the latest thermal insulation criteria. Not only does the use of state-of-the-art machine technology double extrusion capacities at the site, Fernholz is also pushing the development of new recyclable sheet grades in reliably reproducible quality.
