We are turning 60
Celebrating our 60th anniversary this year fills us with pride. 1963 – the year of our inception – was marked by radical change. Adenauer’s era came to an end when he was replaced by Ludwig Erhard as the new Federal Chancellor. The world was horrified by the assassination of John F. Kennedy. In these difficult days, the brothers Werner and Helmut Fernholz used just one injection molding machine to found their company for the production of plastic articles.
The company grew continuously over the following years, and the first production hall at the current location in the Ihne industrial estate in Meinerzhagen was inaugurated in 1972. Production and warehouse space was expanded, and Frank and Uwe Fernholz, the two sons of the founders, took over the reins at the company in 2002.
Not long afterwards, in 2009, Fernholz constructed a second production site in Schkopau with state-of-the-art extrusion systems for PS, PP and multilayer sheets. Finally, Uwe Fernholz took over sole management of the company in 2016 and subsequently initiated the FERNHOLZ 2025 strategy for the future with an extensive investment program at both sites. Today, around 200 employees process 2,000 tons of plastic granulate each month to create approximately 2.5 billion units of packaging each year.
Our history is an impressive testimony to how a small company operating in a highly contested market can evolve into a successful and innovative packaging manufacturer. And the Fernholz story will continue: Til Fernholz is now the third generation of the family to take responsibility at the company.
