Success for Fernholz at Fachpack 2022
- ‘Fernholz goes green’ catches the eye of trade fair visitors
- Fernholz delivers resource-efficient solutions

With its ‘Transition in packaging’ slogan, the Fachpack 2022 in Nuremberg was a major success for Fernholz. Despite the currently difficult economic circumstances in the manufacturing industry, Fernholz was highly satisfied with its attendance of the trade fair. Indeed, the Fernholz stand hosted more visitors and discussions than in previous years. Among the highlights for trade fair visitors was the Fernholz sustainability approach. Aside from the legislator, it is mainly consumers who are demanding sustainable solutions from the packaging industry. This prompted Fernholz to host talks by experts at this year’s trade fair stand: Ben Porter, Global Sustainability Business Development Manager, Base Plastics, Trinseo Belgium, spoke about ‘PS – (un)limited recyclability?’. And Dr Martin Bussmann, Renewable Polymers and Chemicals, Neste Germany, discussed the topic of ‘Organic PP – a sustainable alternative to fossil plastics.’ After their talks, both experts stayed around to answer any questions.
The Desto® cup is another clear statement advocating resource-efficient production: production of the Desto® cup requires 60% less plastic compared to conventional cups, as indicated by the German name, which suggests the ‘less plastic the better’.
Fernholz continued its victory march with the presentation of recycled polystyrene (r-PS). A significant proportion of the polystyrene (PS) produced each year in Europe is used to make food packaging, so the issue of how the material can be recycled is becoming increasingly pressing.
‘The events at the trade fair make us even more convinced to continue investing in sustainable production and products, as they will revolutionize our industry, despite the difficult economy’, said Uwe Fernholz and Michael Roth, both members of the Fernholz management team.
Based in Meinerzhagen and Schkopau, Fernholz is a manufacturer of films and plastic packaging. The company employs a workforce of around 200 at both locations. It holds numerous certificates that bear witness to its sustainable and innovative products.
