Looking back at 2022

Sustainability, energy crisis and the war in Ukraine – these were the dominant issues for us in 2022. The war in Ukraine has had a profound impact on resource prices and energy costs. And this is clearly reflected in our balance sheets, of course. But we still have some positive news and outlooks:

expansion of our plant in Schkopau is scheduled for completion in early 2023. We will then be able to draw on even more production capacity, which we will use primarily to manufacture recycled polystyrene (r-PS). Recycled polystyrene (r-PS) is taking on an increasingly important role in the production of food packaging. Given that polystyrene is used largely in the manufacture of packaging in Europe, recycled products are playing an increasingly important role. In our fiercely contested market, Fernholz believes that a guarantee of climate-friendly production and sustainable packaging will deliver a clear competitive edge.
