Combines the benefits of plastic and cardboard
The Desto® cup combines the benefits of plastic and paper. An ultra-thin plastic inlay is covered with cardboard or paper up to the sealing edge. This cover gives the cup the necessary stability, despite the reduced share of plastic. The cardboard is easy to detach from the inlay, so the cup can be recycled according to type.
The sleeve on the Desto® cup is released by mechanical pressure to ensure easy detachment from the packaging container. This is achieved either when the consumer crumples the packaging or by mechanical pressure during subsequent waste separation. For this purpose, a weakening line was placed on the cuff instead of the conventional separation strip. This line runs parallel to the lateral edges and is created by perforation, pre-scoring or other weakening methods. This enables easy and efficient separation of the different waste components and facilitates the recycling process.
The cuff is made of an easily printable material with an appealing look and feel for attractive presentation of products and brands. What’s more, the cuff is thermally insulating to keep food and beverages hot or cold for longer.
An ultra-thin plastic inlay made of PP, PS, r-PS, PET or rPET is enveloped in cardboard or paper up to the sealing edge. This cover gives the cup the necessary stability, despite the reduced share of plastic. The cardboard is easily removed from the inlay, so that the materials can be separated and then recycled.

Our improved Desto® cup 2.0 received the ‘AAA’ rating from the cyclos-HTP Institute in Aachen in 2023 for its high recyclability of up to 98 %, which is due to the easy removability of the sleeve by the consumer (compared to conventional sleeves).

HOW IT WORKS
- Press the cup together at the marked point.
- The sleeve detaches from the inlay.
- Dispose of the sleeve in waste paper and the inlet and lid in plastic waste.
